Doogee X60 L is a great entry level device from a renowned company Doogee. Trying to dominate the entry level market, Doogee is releasing feature rich smartphone at affordable price tags to attract more customers. One of the best example of this strategy is the Doogee X60 L. It offers great value for money having a great build quality, amazing battery life, good display etc. While it is not capable of running heavy apps, it gets the basic jobs done thus justifying its price.
Let's take a look at the stuff that comes inside the Box of Doogee X60 L.

Inside The Box

Doogee X60 L belongs to the family of budget smartphones, however, the packaging of the device is not. I mean looking at the packaging you will not be able to tell that the device belongs to a family of smartphones priced below $100. Holding the package in your hands, you will feel the touch of quality material used while manufacturing the box. This is important as the unboxing experience play an important role in determining the user experience. The overall size of the box is slightly bigger than the phone. Tearing up the plastic film and opening up the box, you will find the following stuff inside-
  • Doogee X60 L
  • Power Adapter
  • USB Cable
  • Screen Protector
  • Smooth Transparent Case
  • SIM Ejector
  • Warranty Card
  • User Manual
  • Lucky Coin
Yeah, I know it is indeed a long list. Doogee is including all the important stuff inside the box of its budget smartphones to boost the user experience. Just like other Doogee smartphones, you are getting a transparent back case along with a screen protector with Microfiber cloth inside the box. Although, like every other smartphone, there are no earphones in the box which is becoming a common trend in 2018.
Talking about the complete unboxing experience, Doogee manages to enhance it by using high quality packaging which looks attractive. There is an image of the device along with some branding on the front while the key specifications of the device can be found on the back. Overall the unboxing experience is above average.

Design and Build

Looking at the Doogee X60 L will make you believe that you are looking at an expensive premium device. The build quality though plastic is amazing compared to the other phones in the segment. The rear panel is made out of plastic and is removable, however, the metallic paint job on the panel make it looks like a device with a metal back. Holding the device is easy and comfortable as the back panel is curved on both the sides providing a solid grip. Doogee X60 L is available in two color options- Black and Gold.

Honestly, the device is thick but due to its low weight holding the device feels good. Going into the numbers, the thickness of the device is 9.3 mm and it has a total weight of 169 gram. Hence, handling the device for a long time does not cause any strain on your hand. Talking about where is what, Doogee X60 L comes with an 18:9 panel along with proximity sensor, ambient light sensor and selfie camera on the front. For navitgaion there are on-screen since the device doesn't come with capacitive navigation buttons.
While the audio jack and charging port is on the top, at the bottom there is nothing but speaker and mic. Volume keys and the power/lock keys are on the right while the left side is abandoned on any buttons. This is because the SIM slot and dedicated MicroSD card slot are under the removable back panel.
Doogee X60 L houses a vertical dual camera setup on the rear along with an LED flash, Fingerprint scanner and Doogee branding on the bottom. Summing it up, it is okay to say that the build quality of Doogee X60 L is decent for the prize and surely better than other entry level smartphones.

Display

Following the full view display trend, Doogee X60 L also comes with an 18:9 aspect ratio panel with 1280 x 640 resolution. Yeah, the resolution isn’t much but this HD resolution will put less strain on the GPU thus increasing the performance. Also, having the HD display also increase the overall battery life of the smartphone.

Talking about the quality, the display has nice and punchy colors which enhances the visual experience. Yeah, the resolution is just HD but you won’t be able to see any pixelation until you hold the device closer to your eye. Watching movies, TV shows, 2D games feel great due the 18:9 ratio panel enriching your viewing experience.  Sunlight visibility is OKAY making the user struggle to some extent in order to use the display under direct sunlight.
For protection, there is a 2.5D curved glass over the display which also provides a premium look to the smartphone. Also, there is a screen protector which comes in the box which I will recommend to apply in the screen ASAP for batter protection.

Performance and Memory

Powering up the Doogee X60 L is the 64-Bit MediaTek 6737 Quad core chipset which is clocked at 1.3 GHz. Along with the SoC, there is ARM Mali T720MP GPU for handling graphics related tasks. The clock speed of the GPU is 550 MHz.

With MT6737, the device manages to run all the basic apps like FaceBook, Instagram, Twitter, Whatsapp, Chrome etc. However, 3D heavy gaming is not entirely possible on this device. I said “entirely” because you might be able to play some heavy games at lowest graphics setting but still the performance may not be smooth. Well, you cannot expect from a budget phone to play heavy games because to keep the cost low, weak processors are used. Although you can still play some nice 2D games like Candy Crush, Stickman, etc without any issue. Hence, Doogee X60 L is strictly for users who are looking for a device which can perform basic tasks well.
Multitasking on Doogee X60 L is not too great since the RAM capacity isn’t enough to hold many apps at the same time. This means having many apps in the memory will lead to the restarting of the apps. Doogee X60 L comes with 2 GB RAM. Apart from that, you’ll get 16 GB storage out of which 10.5 GB will be available. However, you can further expand it using a MicroSD card up to 64 GB.

Software

Well, If you are guessing Android Nougat tan Yeah!! You won. Like all the entry level budget smartphones, Doogee X60 L also comes with near stock Android 7.0 Nougat. There is a minor skin on top which includes pressing the button for app drawer and Doogee’s own icon pack for some of the default apps. There are some apps which come pre-installed on this device, however, most of them are Google apps.

With that being said, the software experience is much smooth with no issue or slow-downs while browsing through the user interface. All the default features of the Nougat like improved doze, new emojis, multi window etc are present by default in the system. Although, with budget smartphones, no software update is released by the manufacturers or they release software updates too late. For now, Doogee X60 L has no official statement or date regarding the software update. But at the end Nougat is still good and is supported by almost every app on the Google Play store

Camera

Doogee X60 L is a great smartphone but when it comes to the camera, it also suffers the same fate as that on many other budget smartphones. Yeah, it has a capable camera hardware but the inconsistent or improper software optimizations is responsible for the average camera quality. Although this issue can be fixed with a proper software update I guess Doogee X60 L won’t be receiving that anytime soon. The camera app is basic with features like HDR, Beautify, Bokeh, Panorama, and Video recording. However, there is no option for slow-mo or time lapse. The focus speed is good and the focus is just a bit slow.

Coming to the camera hardware, on the rear you get a 13 Megapixel primary sensor and a 0.3 Megapixel supporting sensor. The sensors are arranged vertically on the back along with an LED flash. Talking about the quality, the primary sensor is capable of capturing some good looking images when the lighting condition is good. The images contain nice details with punchy and saturated colors. Bokeh mode is nothing but a software trick which is bad. The secondary sensor is never used for taking bokeh shots. Hence making the purpose of the secondary 0.3 Megapixel sensor unknown.
Talking about the image quality during evening or night, the images contain a high amount of noise which considerably degrades the quality of the pictures. The dual LED flash helps in the dark conditions but only when the object is in close proximity to the camera. Video recording quality is OKAY however, there is no optical or electronic image stabilization making the video shaky.
For the selfies, Doogee X60 L comes with an 8 Megapixel sensor. While the megapixel count is decent, the camera isn’t. Normal images turn out to be good looking with decent details. The beauty mode, however, doesn’t do much and only smoothens the face of the person. The quality degrades further at the night making the overall image unusable.

Battery

Doogee X60 L packs a big enough 3300 mAh battery. Although the back panel of the device is removable, the battery isn’t. But there is no need to worry as the battery is capable enough to provide high endurance even on heavy usage. Well, this is actually great as most of the budget smartphones only come with an average capacity battery. Talking about the actual screen on time, you can easily get somewhere around 6 to 7 hours with heavy use.

Honestly, you will have nos issues regarding the battery life. Combining moderate and heavy usage. Doogee X60 L can even last 2 days. Although, the battery life is a highly subjective matter. This means a particular type of user has a particular usage battery which indeed determines the battery life. The usual battery life test cycle include frequent phone calls, watching tv shows or browsing videos on Youtube, casual photography and frequent use of social media apps.
The only drawback here is the charging time. Since Doogee X60 L lacks fast charging support, the battery takes a total time of around 3 hours to recharge from 0% to 100%. Yeah, It is indeed a long time to charge the battery but in return, you are also getting a solid battery life. Also, there is no support for wireless charging which is obvious at this price tag.

Connectivity and Features

Doogee X60 L is a feature rich smartphone which can out beat its competition without many efforts. Talking about the SIM holding capacity, the device supports Dual SIM with Dual standby functionality. Remember only nano SIM cards are supported. Adding to the charm is the LTE support which means having access to the ultra fast data. Apart from LTE, X60L also supports GSM and WCDMA. Unlike many other smartphones, the back panel of the device is removable which gives you access to the 2 SIM slots and a dedicated Micro SD card slot for more convenience.
Doogee X60 L comes with all the usual sensors like Proximity sensor, Ambient light sensor, Accelerometer, however, it lacks Gyroscope, notification LED. Also, there is no NFC or Infrared sensor on this device which is common in budget smartphones. The fingerprint scanner is located on the back just below the camera. Talking about the unlocking speed, it may not be the fastest but it is far from being the worst. The sensor is also reliable with an accuracy of 8/10. Other than that, Doogee X60 L also comes with gesture support. These include hovering the hand over the phone to change music or images in the gallery or drawing a particular gesture on the home screen to instantly open an app.
Spears on Doogee X60 L is not great. The sound is muffled and the audio lacks bass. Also, you can notice some distortion at the maximum levels of volume. However, the audio quality is good when you use a good quality earphone and YES the device has an audio jack (Hurray). This means you can connect the device with an external speaker through an AUX  cable to enjoy better sound output.

Why should you buy Doogee X60 L?

Doogee X60 L is an excellent smartphone when you compare it with the other smartphones in the similar price segment. Why? Well, firstly the device build quality is solid even with the usage of plastic. Yeah, the device is indeed thick but its low weight makes it comfortable to use. The display is decent for the price with punchy colors to provide a rich viewing experience. However, the processor is not capable of running heavy apps but budget phones are actually not designed for gaming tasks. The Camera is capable of capturing some good looking images and the battery life is awesome. Even for the hardcore users. Software wise, the device is still running Nougat but it is near stock with a custom icon pack providing the smooth user experience.
Now, let's take a look at what Doogee X60 L lacks
  • NFC
  • Wireless or Quick charging
  • IP rating
  • Infrared sensor
  • Type C charging port
  • However, these features are found on smartphones which are priced much higher than Doogee X60 L. Hence, for keeping the price low, you have to make sacrifices. The above specifications are best known to be and may not be 100% true.  Overall X60L is a great device for users who want a good looking device with high endurance for basic day-to-day usage.
